3 Ways to Exercise This Winter

Many people find it more difficult to get up and get moving during the winter. The idea of trekking through the snow to get to the gym sounds a lot less appealing than curling up next to the fireplace with a cup of tea. But this isn't an excuse to stop exercising until the snow stops falling. After all, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggests adults dedicate at least 150 minutes to moderate-intensity activity every week – with two days focused on muscle-strengthening exercises – regardless of the time of year. Fitting exercise into your weekly schedule is just as important to your body as following a primarily raw, plant-based diet.

But spending hours on end at your fitness center isn't the only way to workout. Here are a few suggestions for winter exercise:

1. Try a New Winter Sport
Just because it's snowing outside doesn't necessarily mean you need to stay indoors. Have you considered all of the fitness opportunities you can take advantage of in the snow? From sledding and ice skating, to skiing and snowboarding, there are plenty of ways to burn calories and strengthen your muscles. Who knows, maybe the new sport will turn into a lifelong hobby!

2. Join a Fitness Class
You know that eating a raw diet and exercising on a regular basis are key components for maintaining overall health, but so is social interaction. Studies show that socializing improves your overall mood and mental wellness and may even support a reduced risk of Alzheimer's disease, cardiovascular disease and some forms of cancer, according to the National Institute on Aging. So why not kill two birds with one stone and join a fitness class? There, you can learn something new and meet like-minded individuals all while getting your exercise in for the day.

3.  Take Advantage of an Empty Space at Home
It's easy to skip a day in your fitness regimen during a blizzard – the desire to drive through a snowstorm to spend an hour at the gym likely isn't there. But getting a good workout doesn't depend on your location. All you need is the right frame of mind and a few fitness resources to get physical. Take advantage of the empty space in your living room and follow a fitness regimen that doesn't require machines. We suggest trying a HIIT – high intensity interval training – workout DVD that helps you burn the most calories in the least amount of time.

End Your Exercise Regimen with a Supplement
